Orchid

I took this picture in my kitchen using the window blind as my backdrop. I wanted a plain white background so that I could focus on the detail and patterns of the plants. I thought the detail of the plant was really interesting and unusual. The white helps to bring the colours out. I think the way the flowers are all the same shape and size creates a good effect and keeps the image more simple to look at.

Garden Flowers

Here are some more photos from my summer project. Here I have a selection of photos of some flowers that I took in my back garden.

I think this photo shows movement because of the way most of the flower is slightly out of focus but the center of the fower is in focus. I like the bold oranges and yellow colours in the center of the flower amd I think that the pink stands out well against the green background.

This is one of my favourite photos of flowers that I have taken so far. I like the angle of the flower and all the small details like the brown around the edge of the petals. The way the center of the flower is in focus and the edges slightly out of focus draws your eye to the center of the flower first and then work your way out around the rest of the picture.

I really like the vibrant yellow against the green in this photo. It wasn't until I took the photo that I could really see how much detail was in the center of this flower. This shows how much we miss with our eyes and don't actually see them until they are really close up. I think it is quite effective how the one leaf is in focus and the rest aren't, so you can see the detail of one leaf but not all of them so there isn't too much detail for you to look at and take in at one time.

My favourite part of this photo is the center of the daisy. All the small details I didn't see until I took the photo and had a chance to really have a good look at the flower. I also like the shape of the petals and the way that they have curled. The white looks really nice against the green background.

Buttercup Field

This photo was part of my summer project. I took this photo near the beginning of summer whilst walking through Teign Grace. I like the way the foreground is focused and the background is out of focus. This draws your eye to the buttercups in the foreground of the picture. I think the way the three buttercups at the front are in focus and how the rest of them across the field are out of focus creates a really good affect, and this way there isn't too much for you to take in at one time. I really like how all the colours are the same in this photo and I think the blue sky really helps too make the yellow look really vibrant.
The area of photography that I have chosen to focus on this year is close-up photography. I decided to focus on this for my topic because it is such a broad topic and I can look into lot's of different techniques used for close up photography and experiment with them. I am particularly keen to look into and learn about macro photography which is something that I have never really tried before. What I like about this topic is that I can pretty much go anywhere I want to with it and come up with lot's of interesting ideas to create a few pieces throughout the year. This is also different from anything else I have ever done throughout my first AS year of photography so I can learn about different types of photography.
