Without the black spots, this photo of a maple leaf would be very plain and boring. The spots make the leaf a little more interesting to look at which is what made me spot this leaf in the first place.
Using the white backdrop avoids washing the green colour from the leaf. The black spots help the eye to move across the picture, focusing on each individual spot and the detail around it.
